Details
Glass mat is a non-woven material composed of short fiberglass filaments that are uniformly distributed and bonded together by a polymer resin. The mat forming process produces a fabric that is strong, stable, and heat-resistant. Customers can specify weight and other physical characteristics of the glassmat, such as stiffness and porosity.
Features & Benefits:
- Excellent dimensional stability
- Fire-resistant
- Moisture/mildew resistant
- Customized weight and physical characteristics
Markets and applications:
- Roofing & Waterproofing
- Facer
- Insulation
- Flooring reinforcements
- Drywall tape
- Wall reinforcements
Process:
Chopped glass filaments are dispersed in a solution of polymer and water, which is deposited on a moving wire mesh belt. The excess water is drained away en route to a drying oven, where the curing process is completed before the finished product reaches a winding station.
